Hey, should i get a Go Rhino Grill Guard?, or JBA Headers?, i dunno which one i should get, the guard is cheaper, but then when shippings added, i have no idea.
Performance or protection
If anyone has any input on either of these it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys-Ryan.
truck is a 99 3.0 Reg. cab 4x4
mods i have already are:
K&N FIPK
Borla split rear Exhaust
People will see the grill gaurd. No one will ever be able to tell you have headers unless you pop your hood. Also, I think the grill gaurd will pep up your appearance much more than headers will pep up your performance. Although...having the headers would just about complete all of your performance upgrades... Guess I didn't help too much.
the grill guard would probly be less of a pain to install, i got a warn trans4mer grill guard, no headers, but i did put on a set of westin tube steps, had to lower them and move them out a little, they were unuseable as a step being so close to the body like they were. made my own receiver tube step for the rear, liked the look but couldnt see paying 50 bucks for a peice of pipe to have at the back end, so i made my own at work one day. with your other modifications i dont know if headers would help performance out any, id go for a gearing change before i would try putting headers on.
hey, if I put a grill guard on my truck, will it decrease the fuel economy? I mean it is putting like a 100 pounds on the front of the truck, not to mention the areodynamic factor. If anyone knows and can let me know, it would greatly be appreciated. thanks guys, -Ryan
i say headers. a grill guard will not do much for protection if you hit, lets say a deer, at 55 mph, not to mention if you hit a car or another truck. the headers will complete you exhaust system.
well, if i hit a deer head on at that speed, dead center of truck, this guy below had a grill guard on his ranger and hit a deer at those speeds. Did alot less damage than if he didn't have it. Thats why i'm thinking about getting one.
ya gotta ask yourself wether you want to look cooland have more protection, or have better power and fuel economy. I have a grill guard and i dont notice any difference in my fuel economy, i do think it would have saved me some money because before i got it a deer hit my truck, not i hit the deer. My dad was driving home in our F150 and he saw a deer and stopped, it stopped looked at the truck then rammed the it. Cost over $1000 in damage. If i had had the grill guard then it probably wouldnt of done anything. I dont think they do too much to affect the aerodynamics, most pieces are designed to help minimize air flow resistance. When are you expecting to be able to buy the other you dont choose to buy now? If its soon then choose the headers and try to sell your stock manifold. You could get your grill guard alot sooner then.
Here's my Grille Guard/Brush Guard It may not contour the front end but I know it's protected from almost anything that I hit, like Pheasants for example. I had looked at least 2 months before I found this Grille Guard/Brush Guard on eBay. I didn't like the "grille guards" that were offered because of no radiator protection from flying pheasants.
