head gasket question

I have a v six that I bought real cheap. It was running hot so I suspected the cooling system was clogged be cause there was no water in the oil and no oil in the water. So I didn't think it was the head gaskets.I put radiator cleaner in that said to run the engine 6 hours, befor the time was was up a freeze plug blew out and it over haeted.I replaced the freeze plug and now it acks like the head gasket is gone, stesmcomeing out the exhust and doesn't want to run, like water is getting into the cylnders. When I try to fill the radiator it spits it back out.So its the head gaskets right?what do I need to look for in the way of head damage?Or should I just be able to replace the gaskets?

What size V-6? If it is the 2.9L, it is common to crack heads when they are over heated....

Most parts stores sell kits where you can test the coolant to see if there are any carbon particles in it. If there is, then that is usually an indication of a blown head gasket.

You can also do a leak down test (test kits can be rented from most parts stores) and find out the same thing

From: Destin/Ft. Walton Beach,
It would be a good idea to get those heads resurfaced, after they are checked for cracks.
