I just recently bought a 1996 F-250 XLT 4X4 Powerstroke Diesel 126,000 miles with a manual transmission. I havent had it for very long but the time that I have had it its been running very good. I just wanted to know if anyone else has the same truck and what kind of flaws/problems you've had over time and what to do to fix them. Thanks for you help in advance

The early Powerstrokes, like yours and mine, are prone to a few problems. One is the CPS, or Cam Position Sensor. It's a small sensor that mounts on the front of the block, and is instrumental in communicating with the PCM about injector timing. You can pick one up from International for about $85-90, or double that at the Ford store.
Since you've got a stick, you don't have to worry about problems with your automatic transmission. Click here for some interesting reading. It'll give you some background on how your truck works, and what to do if it doesn't.
i have a 96 psd and bought it 5yrs ago with 100k, now it has 228k and it just gave me the first engine trouble. auto tranny went but you don't have to worry about that. one crutial piece of info that i can give you is that if you need any parts for the engine go to the international dealer. they might not want to help you but the do have all the parts. the motor # is t444 i believe.
keep the oil and filters changed on a strict schedule, kinda pricy but it will pay off. and learn from my mistake don't use any oil additives no matter how good they sound or who recomends them. also use only diesel approved oil like shell rotella, there are a couple of others but that is what i use.
i think that you will enjoy your new purchase just remember to maintain it like you are obsessive compulsive..hehe
take care and good luck..jason
The only flaw I've found so far is that the accellerator pedal keeps wanting to go to the floor and stay there! It is almost like I have a magnet in my right foot and can't keep it from being mashed to the floor.

you too???? so does mine, all the time. someone should look into this.
I have a 97, with 200,000+ on it and I have had to replace a water pump in the 40,000 that i have put on it. and it even has the same auto tranny. I have had a few problems with oil leaks though, more horsepower = more oil leaks. turbo ped. and my rear axle seals dissappeared, but they are both easy to fix. happy rodding.
i dumped two fresh quarts of lucas and the rest of my oil yesterday, refilled with good ole rotella 15w40 and no missing and no foaming.. there is 50 dollars down the recycle bin.. that stuff is junk...
