Where does this stud bolt go? HELP!!
I just did the timing chain and water pump on my '87 E150 302. Now I'm reassembling and there are 3 stud bolts that have a small diameter shaft threading into the engine, a hex bolt head in the middle, and a larger diameter threaded shaft on the outside.
The two long ones hold the AC/power steering pump bracket on. I did that. But the third, shortest one, I have no idea. It has corrosion in the middle and obviously went through the water pump, but all those appear accounted for. Nothing needs a stud bolt, but from the look of the grime on the outer threads maybe nothing was ever threaded onto it in the first place.
I have one bolt hole of this diameter on the bottom of the timing cover of the same diameter, but a stud cannot go here, it would jab the water pump inlet hose.
