After replacing distributor. After putting in Petronix ignition. After full tune up. After radiator recore. I'm on my way to work today, lift of gas to slow for a corner and notice steam from right rear. Every time I lift, more steam. Now no heat from heater(bad sign). As I pull into parking lot a lot of steam from both exhaust pipes. At best I think I have one blown head gasket, at worst?? Who knows at this point. I'm pushing $400 in the truck in the past two weeks and now this. Oh man. Santa is giving me coal this year.
If you're getting steam or white smoke from the exhaust, that's a good sign you have a blown head gasket. Pull the plugs and the real clean plugs shows which cyls have the problem. As the old saying goes............. When it rains it pours!
56 - Yeah...what Barry said. And you sure get my sympathy!
I thought I had the running gear all done and was doing body stuff. Now I'm back on an engine problem. Of course, the brake light switch just quit too. Oh, well...
that is definitely where i would put my money....just one of those things, its like "what neeeeexxxxxxxttttttttt?!?!?" sympathy here too...
the motor i just put in had the intake gaskets out of it, so while i had it out i took care of that too....drivin the car one day, and pretty soon theres water everywhere.....not long before that, someone backed into the car anyway.....so junked the car, stuck the motor in the 53, and hopefully fixed the problem.......fingers crossed of course, i havent put water in it and hooked up yet to see if she leaks, im not really worried though
You have my sympathy! Everytime I get ready to drive my truck something else shows up that needs fixing. Hope it's just a gasket and that you get through it quickly. Maybe Santa will bring some diamonds along with the coal!
Well I guess it's good news. The head gasket was blown. Between the #1 cylinder and the water passage in front of it. I have the head gaskets. Since I was that far I might as well pull drivers side also, in the process I broke the drivers exhaust manifold. Put a $.50 hole in the very front. Ah hell, that manifold had broken ears anyways. Now am looking fror drivers manifold before putting it all back together. Thanks for your sympathy, the wife just doesn't understand.
