trailer break controller

Just picked up my truck yesterday. '05 F-250 CC Powerstroke. Put a 120 miles on yesterday and i absolutely love it.

Its black. Its only an XLT, wish it was a lariot, but i couldnt find any solid color lariots in the area with CC short bed and diesel. And im not a fan of the two tone. There are a few options that i wish it had, like damn running boards... . but i guess ill jsut have to by some nice aftermarket ones... they look better anyway.

So now my question I need to get a trailer break controller on it. Unfortunatly it did not come witht the ford integrated trailer break controller. And it cant be added after the fact. So what do you guys recomend as your favorite and best one out there....

Thanks

Kevin

The Prodigy is the the best aftermarket brake controller out there. I've used several different brands, and it is far superior to them all.

It's the easiest brake controller to set up, and the easiest to make minor adjustments to..

I'll second the Prodigy controller. Mine's been working great in my 04 for 15,000 miles now. I think Ford moved the location of the plug-in harness for the controller plug on the 05s, but for what it's worth my 04 had it under the dash panel, which you had to remove with a nickel or a screwdriver. I think it's up underneath everything by the radio on the 05s. You should have a gray, square 6-pin connector with 5 actual pins in it to hook up to. Did Ford give you a pigtail harness in your glovebox to hook up a controller? If not, you can buy one directly from Tekonsha for the Prodigy. If you can find the grey connector, you shouldn't have to cut or splice anything.

Good luck with your brake project.

Take a look at the Jordan Ultima.

http://www.jordanbrake.com/index.html

I have this unit in my truck and have been very happy with it. The "direct control" provided by tying the trailer braking directly to brake pedal position seems to me to be better than the inertia based philosophy of the other standard type controllers.

I have an 03 F-250. To access the pigtail plug on my truck i remove the fuse panel under the steering wheel. look over to the right the is a reciever plug for the pigtail next to a metal braket that looks like part of the fromwork for the dashboard. If the 05's have the dame reciever plug it should be there. piece of cake to hook yp a brake controller.

I'll fifth or sixth the Prodigy by Tekonsha. I tow a triple axle toy hauler and it does a fantastic job of hauling down the trailer.

It is very easy to set up, has three additional levels of boost over the standard inertial engagement, and also has a manual lever so you can activate the trailer brakes without touching the truck brakes. Nice if you get some trailer wag or had a blow out on the truck or whatever.

So give your trailer a break, use the Prodigy brake controller

I'll 7th the Prodigy. You can get it and the easy install harness for about $125 shipped. It took me all of 10 minutes to install.

I'll eighth the prodigy. Whatever you do, stay away from the penduline(sp) type. I believe that the integrated controler in the 05's are prodigy. Of course, a different application as they are run through the computer, but I have heard that prodigy did produce those for Ford. If you need to go aftermarket, Prodigy is the best I know of.

Do some research before you rule out getting the Ford Factory Part and plugging it in yourself.

There is a thread over at the diesel site where member annieacres put one in and swears it works.

We don't seem to be able to get her to tell us if all the features are working like the interlink to the center message board.

I have the integrated controller and like it a lot.

The Prodigy is an "inertial" activated controller, which is essentially the same as the "pendulum" type. Somehow they have found a way to eliminate having to level the controller. This may indicate that the inertial sensor is different than the older types.

With all the pro-Prodigy feedback I will check into it for my next truck, even though I have been happy with my Jordan controller (and my son's name is Jordan )
