My truck is taking spells of not starting. It is becoming more frequent.
When I turn the key it just clicks once( when it doesn't just start). I put a NAPA lifetime warranty starter on it in the spring. I believe the culprit is the starter solenoid. If I bypass it the truck starts right up.
I would bet it is the solenoid. I had a similar issue and thankfully I carry tools and I had to keep jumping the solenoid to get the truck to start. Sinice it is only a $15 or so part, it's pretty much a no brainer.
If it starts when you jump across it, but it won't with the key, it sounds like the solenoid is shoring out. It's a simple "plug and play" set up. I would take the old one off the fender wall and let it hand from wires (disconnect battery for safety). Screw the new on the fender wall in the same orientation as the old one. Then simply take wires off of one post at a time and put on new solenoid. It should take more than 10 min to do. I'm 99% sure that it is your problem from what you describe.
