390.. new starter, solenoid, dizzy, I dont run headers, 4v edelbrock. I really believe since i ran those grounds it is fine. the only thing is that the carb is flooding out... I just drove it around the block and would idle fine except for when aggresive on brakes...
I finally got a tach... When idling it is consistently at 900 rpm. When in gear (reverse) and foot down of brake it got a consistent 600 rpm. When ebrake was on and no foot on brake it got 700 rpm... What rpm should everything be at.
I belive that i have to rebuild my carb. Even though it has low miles it would only eliminate another problem. I believe i am also going to run another ground from my engine to my fire way. I currently have a ground from frame to engine. and firewall to engine (when i did this one it started better).. I had to use a wire from a starter (only thing they had in) would that work? Im going to run my old starter wire to firewall, i dont think it would hurt it.
I think it would start but it acts like its flooded. Wish me luck guys and if that doesnt work, i dont know what will.
There is a series of problem that have occured if you want to see them check out the thread "will vac leak cause carb backfire"

Reset the float or you have some crap in the needle seat making it flood.
As you say stopping fast and it floods shound be just setting the floats. But
if you have a highout put fuel pump you'll need a regulator to lower it down to around 4-6 psi or they flood on you. This a starting point.... my 2 cent

Should i start off by taking my carb and cleaning it, to be hones i have never really touched the carb except tuneup. I dont even know where the needles are. I was just going to rebuild it and clean everything really well.
Well this is how we all learn stuff, get a book or just dive in and remove the top & you'll see the floats. Maybe some one here on this site has a copy of the float setting info sheet.. If not just lower it about 1/8'' and test drive it. You should remove the carb for doing it the First TIME so you'll know what to do next time if you need to do it another time. DO THIS ON A lager clean table so you can find all you parts if you drop one you'll find it.. good luck.. post if it helps or take it to the shop ....my 2cent
