Dont Do This.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Driving down the road doing about 60 mph with the cruise on and needed to make a turn on to another road. I hit the off Button on the cruise and the brake pedal at the same time i guess,, Throttle never quit, i was on the brakes hard, really hard and my truck just downshifted and kept pullin like a mo fo,, Once i let off the button and the brake all was well,, almost missed my turn and greased my pants but i made it .. Guess i almost panicked, not sure what happened or why i didnt let go of the button. Could have been a bad situation for sure... tried it again several times and it wouldnt do it, then tried again today and same deal, never quit pulling, long as i held the off button and was pushing the brake pedal it was pulling really hard..!! Just thought i would pass this on to all the brothers here on FTE, might prevent someone from crashing a really cool truck. My truck is an 02 model, curious if its a model year thing or what? Ya'll try it, but do it in a safe area, and HANG ON..!!!!

I second that, it must be a "feature" that Ford didn't intend to include.

The added cost of that feature could be real expensive.

Hmm - very interesting - local Ford dealer has been trying unsucessfully to fix my CC. They have replaced a brake pressure switch twice now and each time they say that should do it but no sooner do I leave the dealership and it quits again. Problem is, it doesn't do it all the time - one day Cruise works - next day doesn't. When mine does work again I will try what happened to you. That must have been very scary! Mine is a 2000.

Never had that issue before.....and hope I don't. Thanks for the heads up, I use my cruise quite a bit. I guess if it does happen I will be looking for a small truck with a small tail pipe that sounds funny to help slow me down. Ha!

I work with electonics quite a bit, here is a little inside on how that is possible. In a digital enviroment, everything works off of Highs or lows, most everything triggers off of one side of the transition, think of a square wave going from negative to positive then back to negative. the positive portion could be simulation of the switch on the steering wheel. When depressed it creates a Positive pulse. The break switch when the break is applied, could in theory, create the same or similar Positive pulse. If the PCM, or computer that is controlling it, works off of a Negative going transition, i.e. Was positive and is going to negative, then holding the button down on the steering wheel will prevent the pcm from ever seeing the Negative transition, makeing it add more fuel because you are slowing down.

I do not know if this is the way our trucks are setup, but I can see how this type of thing is possible. I am going to try the scenerio out today, I bet if all our trucks do it, then it is probably a scenerio going on similar to what I described. Be safe and let go of the button I guess.

Made me chuckle, not from your close call, but from one of my own, I had got out of college and had been driving one of my dads electronic e-model cats while I was working on my 359, and finally got the 359 close to complete and was running some with it, well I was really tired just trying to get a little closer and had my "poor-man's cruise" the throttle stick on my old 359 stuck out on WOT just a pourin the coal to her, and snapped out of the daze because I saw flashing lites for a 4-way stop and went to kick the cruise off (been driving e-models) and that thumpin V-8 just pulled harder than ever, took my a while to get awake enough to remember doh' coulda been really bad, I will try this in my 00 PS though, thanks.,

Well I tried to get my truck to do it but it kicked it off with everything that I tried. So I guess my theory is out the window...

No paticular reason i hit both the button and the brake,, it does release the cruise when you touch the brake only,, i sometimes just use the off button and coast a while before i hit my brakes. I have only gotten my truck to do this twice,, Been trying it most everyday now to see if i can find the right sequence. It seems that you have to hit the brake and the off button at the same exact time for it to do it,, when you get it right you'll know it for sure. The second time it did it i was trying to do it so i was prepared, Kinda funny actually,, the harder i pushed the brake the harder it pulled. Could be really bad if you wernt expecting it. Will be interesting to see if anyone else can make there truck do the same, Just please be carefull..!!
