Unhappy Timming problem '83 4.9

I just picked up 1983 f150 with 4.9 runs good most of the time but some times runs on after shut off and shakes at cruising speed untill you let off on gas or accelerate.
Carb. was changed with rebuilt , lots of wires cut around engine I have wiring dia. and I think a lot of the parts that are needed for computer are missing.
Can I change it over to an older style system. if so I can get older dist.and other parts just need '80 or so wiring dia.
My first '83 I have had '73,'80 and 91. I don't need to worry about emissions.

If it has a carb, are there wires running to it? If not, sounds like the computer was already eliminated. Sounds more like a timing problem/wrong ignition system left in. You'll need to revert back to the duraspark II system if the electric carb has been eliminated already. Use the seach feature on the board, many posts in regards to that already, and lots of useful info on how to do it. Other than that, check your timing...others can chime in on specs after the conversion, as they're likely different than before the conversion.

No wires to carb and the computer is still hooked up.
