I have a 1962 Baby Blue F100 Pickup with a 223 cid six and a four speed manual trans. I just found-out the brake lights are not working. The bulbs look good and all other lights are operational. I checked the fuses and they look good. I changed the brake light switch on the master cylinder to no avail. Also, the generator light is on, but the gauge shows it is charging well. I have had this truck for a few months and am having to remember some of my old repair skills, but am stumped by this. What should I check next? Thank you for the help!!! Keep On Truck'n
Sometime things are real simple. Like tracing the wiring. Check for chafing or brakes in the wire. When my lights acted up, i found that the gounds were bador broken off the chasis all together.
I put on new gound connectors making sure i clean up the metal for a good contact. That worked. Also sometimes the bulb sockets are corroded and need to be cleaned or replaced.
My father suggested i put an additional ground from the battery to the chasis or engine block. Well i took his advice and it seem to cure any intermittent electrical problems
Thanks for the tips. I checked the fuses - all good. I bought myself a Multi-meter, which has been invaluable at trouble-shooting some household wiring I have done recently. I was getting battery voltage at the master cylinder swith, but not through it. Jumpering the two wires together (bypassing the switch) lit the brake lights. Since the switch was new, I thought it maybe was a bubble in the brake system under the switch. I blead the system and the brake lights work fine now. Thanks again Truckers!!!
