Trailer plug in box

Has anyone installed a 7 pin plug in there box for a gooseneck or 5th wheel, still want to keep the bumper outlet for my bumper pull trailer? Is there a tee plug available that can be connected at the back bumper plug to feed the extra outlet from? I don't want to tap into the wires as with-in a couple of years of our winter salt the wires start to corrode even with soldering, silicon grease and shrink tube on them.
Gm offers a extra outlet in the box for about 50 bucks on factory trailer package.

Yep! You can purchase an extension to plug into your bumper plug and route it up into the bed and mount somewhere convenient for your G/N trailer to plug into. Check out www.etrailer.com in the wiring section for extension plug and any adaptors, etc you may need.

I don't know if Ford offers an extra box for a 5er hookup, but it's a great idea. In the mean time, I saw some 7-way extension cords for sale at Pep Boys today. Not a particularly elegant solution, but it would get you out of a pinch.

What you need to do for a power tap is find self-sealing heat shrink tubing. I don't know if you've seen it before, but when you shrink it, it conforms to the wires and then this clear gel oozes out around the wires to seal it up. I have some 1/2" Diameter stuff for making battery cables with, but I can't seem to find any of it in small-diameter. A company called AMP developed it for the Military. I don't know where to find it these days, though, given that AMP got gobbled up by Tyco. I imagine the technology is used on Tractors or Motorcycle/ATV Repair.

SoCal I realize that a extention can be run from the bumper plug over the tailgate into the box but what I want to do is run apermenent line from the point up behind the bumper where the existing plug connects to the harness.

Cowboy I know that Ford dosn't offer the second plug option as GM does it whould sure be great if they did. Have used the shrink sleeves and filled them with silicon dielectric grease before, this works ok for a butt splice but does not seal great on a three wire connection.

hdway, sorry, I thought that's what you were asking. If you like, you can take the bumper plug apart and conncet the new snake's wires to the plug and the factory wires and go back out the back end of the plug, under the truck, and in through a hole in the side of the bed to a new pug in the bed. Is that what you were asking?

Are you saying that you can get a extra 7 wire cable into the connection on the back of the factory bumper plug and make the splice inside? If there is enough room to do that it may be the answer wiil take a look at that tomorrow.

Not too familiar with Ford, but GM offers a camper wiring harness for 35 bux or so. I thought Ford camper package had the extra wires under the bed for the camper plug.

The type of shrink tube you’re looking for I have found at either water well drilling/pump companies or electric wholesale supply's. It is used to make the electrical splice for motors on submersible pumps. The smallest I have seen is 14 ga.

I have seen it used on 240v pumps submerged in 200 feet of water. Just a non-insulated butt splice and watertight shrink tube

On my 05 I found a simple solution. I just route my cable between the tailgate and the bed to the rear outlet. This works for me because I have a long cable on my fiver.
