help from DD owners.

I am running 460 30 over stock stroke. flat tops D3-Ve heads stock valves ported on exaust to remove smog bump and port matched on intake to stealth non CJ intake with 770 holley truck avenger carb. L&L full length headers 13/4 primary and 3 inch collectors through 40 series flowmasters. comp cam 218/226 duration 514/526 lift 111 lobe center and .005 deck hieght. if you need anymore info let me know. my question is I have been told this should be around 390hp and 510 tq. what cam may improve these #"s and what could I expect if I went to say 540ci and larger valves in the heads. any suggestions would be good. PS. I want to make my power from 1000 and up with 5500 max rpm this is going in a 79 4x4 with C6 and 456 gears pulling 37 inch tires.
Thanks in advance Matt.

I ran the original sims on your setup. I tried a couple of different cams, but everything I loaded that made more HP also punched a hole in your low end torque. The only exception was the Lunati 00096 - 414 HP @5000, 507 lb-ft @3500.

You could stroke it, but for a fraction of the price of the stroker parts and machine work you could upgrade to a roller cam and valve train. Keeping everything as before but swapping to a Crane 311-2S-12 hyd roller cam made the following numbers - 468 HP @5000, 556 lb-ft torque @3500. Going back into the heads and doing a full port job and big valve setup bumps it even further - 523 HP @5500, 570 lb-ft torque @4000 - but now you're into very expensive territory.

Thanks Brad I like the looks of those roller cam #'s . what do you consider a full port job, I have the exaust side opened up and the bowls blended but only port matched the intake.

Full port job is a complete runner clean up, fully port matched, chambers cleaned up, bigger valves, etc. Get bids, because you might be surprised what it will cost. Dig around a little - you might find a set that someone has already done, but needs to sell because they need the money. If not, it might pay to go ahead and get a set of aftermarket aluminum heads.

Using the box stock config for the Kaase-design Motorsport SCJ heads, swapping to larger header primaries, an 850 CFM carb, and a single plane manifold takes you to 602 HP @6000, and 606 lb-ft torque @4500.

This config would make a ton of power. The problem is, now you have to have a bottom end that will take repeated trips to 6500 RPM and a driveline that will handle that much twist.

The latest version is DynoSim. I think it runs about $130-ish. I picked up an older verion (DD 2000) for $40 off the web.

Just be careful to get your head settings right. The default choices are very limited. Your sim will be meaningless unless you take the time to get the flow numbers right. The same goes for getting all the cam specs dialed in. You can buy a cam disc that has most mfgs cams already loaded. Flow numbers are a little trickier, but are also available on the web.
