I have a 1990 F-350 crew cab and occasionally when driving the steering wheel will shake uncontrollable. It appears that it happens when it hits a bump in the road wrong, not every time just randomly. It will eventually stop shaking but the only way to make it stop is to come to a complete stop or eventually let it work its self out. The floor shifter from 2WD to 4WD also shakes back and forth. I have taken it to the dealer a few times and they said they couldn’t find anything wrong. I have had the shocks replaced but I don’t believe this is related.
Is it the steering box? One of the cross members joints on the steering?
I would really appreciate any advice since my family and I are supposed to go up to the mountains over the weekend and I don’t need to hit a patch of ice while this is happening.
I'd be willing to bet the Trac-Bar bushings are wore out,Have someone shake st. wheel back-n-forth while you look it.Also check tie rods while your under there and see if steering damper is leaking (if you have 1,not all did).
