really stupid positraction question
Hey everybody, How do you tell if a rear axle has positraction ? I had my 60 F100 (Spicer 60) on jack stands, and when I rotated one wheel, the other rotated in the opposite direction. Since both wheels did this, do I have posi ? thanks, Jim

If the wheels turn in opposite directions, it is peobably an open diff.
However,there are many types of posi. Some types require a certain speed difference between the wheels before it locks up...try spinning it real fast and see what happens.
The best way to find out is to pop the cover off and see what u got.

If you turned one wheel one way and the other wheel turned the other way... there is a 99% chance you do not have a limited slip (posi) differential.
Even when wore out past the torque specs... and I mean flat out SHOT... I've never been able to rotate a wheel and have one go the other way.
And like GTKane said... try spinning the thing real fast... and if it continues spinning after you take your hand off it... it's an open.
