Hey everybody, How do you tell if a rear axle has positraction ? I had my 60 F100 (Spicer 60) on jack stands, and when I rotated one wheel, the other rotated in the opposite direction. Since both wheels did this, do I have posi ? thanks, Jim
If the wheels turn in opposite directions, it is peobably an open diff.
However, there are many types of posi. Some types require a certain speed difference between the wheels before it locks up...try spinning it real fast and see what happens.
The best way to find out is to pop the cover off and see what u got.
Try turning the driveshaft. Both wheels same direction should be a type of posi. (or thick rearend oil) Wheels spin opposite direction probably an open style.
