Ok, I posted something about this before, but now I know a little more about what I'm talking about. I have a 1989 Ford F250 Lariat 5.8L v8 351w. Where the water pump casing meets the block (producing somewhat of a seam), there is a massive coolant leak. I was thinking, and hoping, it is just a seal, or gasket, that has just worn out. I don't know too much, so I was hoping I would just have to take off the water pump components and replace a gasket (not a head gasket). If someone could offer some feedback as to how my thinking sounds, I would be extatic. If I still don't make any sence, I could try to go into more detail.
Sounds good, man. Thanks. See if this sounds right. I take off the water pump, take off the rest of the housing, take out the old gasket, put in a new one, and then put everything back on (including a new water pump).
You just want to remove the water pump. The housing behind it is the timing cover and you don't want to remove that if you don't have to. I am sure there are brackets on the front of it that must come off as well.
Your leak may come from the timing chain plate too you must check that too bud It happenned to me I had to change all gasket its a 6 hour job ....you mus be the kit at auto parts for 39.00
