I've had good luck with the recirculating pump style heaters. The lower rad hose heaters work ok, but like stock block heaters, only really heat a localized area, where the recirc unit heats, and pumps warm coolant throughout the engine, and if you leave it on defrost, will usually keep the windshield clear as well. The added bonus, the truck will likely have relatively instant heat on cold days, reduced idle/warm up time, and in the long run, that saves fuel and wear and tear.
Ok thanks now for the next million dollar question how do these install I bought a Katz and it didnt look like it would work due to space constraints and maybe a little stupidity on my part. Do you need to tap into the block drain then into a heater hose or do these things just go in the heater hoses.
Thanks
Ensure you read the instructions re the KATZ really close, 1SG tried installing one of those recirculating type recently and burned his up. Due to the fact it must be placed at the lowest level, well we have no heater hoses down that far on the engine. He has a BH back in there now........seems happy.
