on my interior light...passenger side opening door turns it on...but drivers side doesnt...on the passenger side the switch is on the front of the door under the top hinge...but on the drivers door it isnt the same....???
ive looked everywhere...no switch..
the only thing i can find is a square hole on the cab back bottom of door opening where it looks like the switch might go...does anyone or can anyone take a pic so i can see where this switch is.....i dont have another f150 to look at and apparently before 92 its in a different place....argh....
On my '93 the switch is in the square hole you describe. Someone must have removed yours. Mine has the switch, but the light isn't activated by the driver's door anyway...haven't figured out why yet.
that figures..and FORD just HAD to change it after 91...so its different....murphys law..considering there must be over 30 87-91 trucks but not a single 92 up truck in the wrecking yard....
anyone in the calgary area know of a good wrecker with the 92-96 model years
Your 92 F-Series should have the switch in the front door pillar. Is there a hole in the same location as on the passenger side? If so, it is probable that the switch went bad & a previous owner simply removed it & shoved the connector back in the hole. Pulling the cowl trim piece from behind the E-brake pedal will give you access to the connector.
These switches are notorious for failing by sliding inward (in my experience after about 8-10 years), which allows the interior lights to stay on; ergo: dead battery. A new switch would be available at your local parts store for ~$5. Consider replacing both at the same time; it is a lot less hassle than a dead battery when you least expect it.
Broncos did use the square hole in the base of the B-Pillar as the switch location. Why the difference? I do not know... Anyone??
well, on mine there is no hole in between the front hinges drivers side.,....
but there is a square hole right at the bottom of the b pillar with the wires stuffed inside...thats what im assuming is the location for said switch.....
maybe its in a different location on extended cabs as opposed to reg cab ....???.
Whatever the reason the connector and wiring for your lights will be behind this hole. If you want the lights to work get a replacement switch and re-install it.
If you have a Bronco or Super Cab, your switch is indeed most likely at the base of the B-Pillar. I have never had to replace one of those switches so I do not know the price, but assume that they are available in the aftermarket.
Why the difference in various models? I do not know, but the B-Pillar location does allow the interior lights to come on more quickly than the A-Pillar location.
