I was driving up the road at about 55 and noticed a slight knock (I guess) thought about the much talked about "cackle". When I came to a stop I got on it pretty good taking off. I then noticed the noise was gone. Could it be I am babying it too much? Input would be appreciated, new to diesel and trying to learn.
Give us a little more info. Did you just leave your driveway or had you been driving for a while? Was it a constant knock-knock-knock or just one? Did it vary with speed? Have you had it in 4wd lately?
It had been runing some, but not quite warmed up. No 4X4 yet. I was most noticeable on acceleration when cruising. The truck is really quiet once it is warmed up.
Sounds like your hearing the "fuel cackle" that so many of the newer (99.5 and up) 7.3 psd have a problem with, the number 8 injector is different and the fuel rails deadend in the heads so you get a "cackle" from trapped air.
do a search for it, I am sure you will find a ton of threads on it.
