12 volt generator

What year 12 Volt negative ground generator will bolt up to my factory brackets. Also any idea on the cost of having my 6 volt generator rebuilt to 12 volts?

Several ways you can go about it. Buy 12V field coils for your generator. It will put out slightly less than 12V but is functional. I've been running one this way for over 3 years and my lights don't dim at idle. Cost me about $50

Or have an automotive electrical shop convert it to 12V. Cost is easy for a shop to estimate and will vary around the world.

Or find a 12V generator from any Ford '57 thru about '65 and use the parts in your generator - or drill a hole in the case for the locating pin on your current mounting bracket. Cost is whatever the salvage gennie is.

I don't believe there is a bolt on application swap unless it's aftermarket.

All Ford, Merc, Lincoln and truck V8 generators are interchangable 56 thru 64.
Also 6 cyl trucks of those years.
The differences are pulleys, brackets, amperage and regulator. They were available in 30, 35, 40, 50 and 60A.

I guess you might want to keep the old look, but you'd be much better off to change it out for a modern alternator. There's good reason that generators aren't used anymore.

The last options is close enough to bolt on for me. If do not go with an alternator I will use option number three. Drilling a few holes does not bother me.
