front end roar
Well in an effort to help someone out. I had a roaring noise coming out of the front of my wife's 2000 Mountaneer. It started out as a little noise but got louder. Then it got even more loud when I would hit 60 and at 70 would quieten down a little bit. So I did a search on this site and came up with the hub/bearing assembly. This is just what it says an assembly. You can not replace the bearings or seals. The part cost me $175.99 at Autozone not including taxs. Here are the steps I performed.
1. Took the tire off.
2. Remove the whole brake assembly
3. Remove rotor
4. Remove three bolts that attach the hub. they mount from the back side.
5. Removed the nut that holds the shaft to the hub. (1-1/4 socket) It has
revers threads.
6. Remove the ABS sensor wire.
7. Used a hammer and tapped the hub loose.
8. Put the new one on in the reverse order.
Took me about 45 min of work.
