air intake

I am slowly adding the simple modifications to my 2000 Ranger with the 3.0L in it. So far all I've done is add a Gibson Exhaust which I am pleased with so far. I am looking for intake modifications more then just a K&N air filter as well as a chip. Any suggestions on these or other modifications that would help me get my truck over a mountain pass at 70mph without downshifting would be appreciated.

air intake

KKM makes an intake for that model... only thing is it's not registered emissions legal. It'll run around $90-100. I bought one for my '99 Ranger 4x4 3.0L and I did notice some difference. FYI, you will notice an increase in engine noise, but it sounds really cool.

Here's another question about intake on my 3.0L. Has anyone heard of the vortex valve? It's supposed to alter the shape of the airflow. It sounds kinda hokey to me but I'd be interested in hearing if someone else has used one.

air intake

If its any help at all I have a '96 ranger with a 2.3 4 cyl. and i removed the air muffler inside the fender well, and removed the air baffle box in between the air cleaner and the intake. And replaced it with an appropriate diameter aluminum pipe. This unchoked the air flow a bit and gave me a noticable horse power increase. The truck accelerates faster off the line and has more giddy up and go when passing someone on the highway in 5th doing 75mph. Beyond that I installed a K&N Air Filter Charger and the ponies really shot up with another noticable increase in H.P.

vortex valve is waste of $ and a POS to boot! just increase the amount of air entering the engine. only turbo- and superchargers work that way and they have a means to force extra air into the system. don't waste your time or money on it.
