Revving away for no apparent reason
My 1988 F-150, 5.0 l, 302 V-8, manual transmission pick-up occassionally revs up to 1500 or 2100 rpm seemingly on its own and then settles back down to the normal 750 on its own. I do have cruise control but never use it. The accelerator pedal is not being pressed. If I do press it it revs even higher. The throttle body seems clean and not hung up. Could it be something with the air bypass valve? Any other thoughts?
