2.9 4x4 87, will not start, Turn the key and it trys to start. Fuel from the rail is coming out around 40psi, We are getting spark. Spraying fluid in the manifold will start it??? I have read allot about the In fuel pump. Could it cause this problem?
Be gentle I'm mechanically challenged.....
If the fuel pumps can bring the pressure up to 40 psig and maintain that pressure while the engine's trying to start, then the fuel pumps are not causing the problem. However, if it will start when you spray fuel into the manifold, that does indicate a problem with fuel delivery. Are you fuel injectors firing? Easy enough to check just by listening to them (a stethoscope can help).
When you turn the key, but right before you actually turn the engine over--you should hear a buzzing noise, which is your fuel system pressurizing. If this noise is not pressent--there may be a problem with your pump. However, if it is at 40psi, it sounds like the pressure may be OK. I would say to try what mrshorty has suggested, but the module is also been known to cause the problem you speak of. If the injectors check out and the pump is OK, check the module. The only other thing that may be causing this is your starter solenoid. There may be a problem with it. You may want to get a remote starter to rule this out, but they are pretty cheap to replace and very easy to access. Takes about 10 minutes to do the swap. Hopes this helps.
Sounds like injectors not firing, and if none of them fire it has to be something they have in common. They have 12 volt power (red wire). Check that you have 12 volts there, or buy a noid light to check the injector firing pulse.
Thanks to all the reply's. It appears the injectors are not firing according to the person looking at this. they kind of work on it here and there so slow response. He did mention he does not have wiring diagrams for the injectors, anybody know where to get them
Thanks again
Any decent manual (Chilton's is okay) should have wiring diagrams. If print manuals are too "passee" for you, try the vehicle repair guides at www.autozone.com They're essentially an electronic version of Chilton's DIY manuals.
