No Heater Fan

My father has a '90 Aerostar that he refuses to get rid of. The thing is an amazing vehicle. Still running after all of these years. Anyway, he is complaining that the fan will not blow when switched to the heat position. In any other position...vent, a/c, etc. the fan works. A mechanic replaced the pneumatic switch which did not do a thing. Any ideas? Heater coil? Thanks.

BTW 4.3 L V-6 if that makes a difference.

I think that's just the way the early AStars are. Heat comes out somewhere from the firewall, near your feet. I don't understand why they did it that way, but here's what I do to get around it. In the winter, I disconnect power to the A/C compressor. You can pull the power out at the compressor, but it's easier to disconnect the low pressure switch on the A/C line. It is on the drier I think, the black cylindrical unit on the pass. side of the engine compartment, near the blower motor. Same effect, the compressor won't come on. So for heat, throw the control into the MAX A/C position, put the temp up like you'd expect. You'll have recirculated heated air through the vents. NORM A/C will bring in fresh air, lightly heated. Hope this helps!

I wouldn't disconnect the A/C compressor. The A/C compressor runs in defrost mode to help remove humidity from the air. This helps to defog the indside of the windows quicker. Check to see if the blower motor has power at the connector when switched to heat. If not check out the wiring between the switch and the blower motor.
