Just installed a Car starter into my gas, 05, F-350 and the check engine light came on. Just wondering if anyone knows how to reset the ECM without sending it to the dealer??

Stop by an Auto Zone, they will run the codes for you for free. Or, disconnect the battery overnight and see if it resets itself. You say you installed a 'car starter' ?? In your 05 ? Why ? Explain please, your rig is still under warranty, so why did you install a starter, and why is it a car starter ? Ken
Ah,,, 'car starter', as in 'remote starter'. OK, now it all clicks, hey, it's Monday, you don't expect all 10 cylinders to work on Monday do you ?? Yuk, yuk, Ken

I've installed a multitude of remote starters in different makes and different starts and have never tripped the computer to have the light come on. Just curious what brand starter it is. I installed an Astro Start 2W with the alarm in my F250 V10 and it was actually one of the easiest installs I've done - the worst being on a 02 Dodge 1500 SLT. That day consisted of many four letter words but it never tripped the computer!!
It was a Command Start 480I. I to have installed many starters and alarms, it was actually a guy at my shop that had done it. It may be because he didn't hook up all of the nessecarry acessory lines but I am not tho shure.
Finding stuff on this site is a little hard but just zoom around the drop down links. I found the second listing to give some good clues about new wires and circuits on the 05 series.
I would find out why it threw the code. There are new proceedures for getting all the signals sorted out with the 05: For example the "Tach Out" wire in the cab does not send 12VDC but rather a low volt digital signal that must be amplified to work with some remote start, alarms, and other accessories that need an analog signal.
If you are automotive electrically inclined and don't have the $1500+ to get the right books and DVDs this is a good resource to find hints to the type circuits we are screwing with on these aftermarket installs.
Good luck
My dealer down here will not add on the "factory" remote start system because the instructions they have don't work and they have too many problems. Lots of folks are just not hooking up the start sense part of the remote, but I think that makes the anti grind feature not work.... yada yada I am waiting to find a product and instructions that are specifically for 2005 gas V10 install. SO far no luck.
