Will a power steering box from a 2x4 work on a 4x4? I know that some of them on the 2x4's are mounted closer to the cab, but can i make it work on a 4x4? By the way the 4x4 in question is a 76 hi-boy w/390. The guy I got it from tossed the power assist and left it manual steering. I would like to convert it to power steering like my 78 4x4. Thank you.

No the 2wd box is very different. Like dynamic said, there is a good tech article about this swap, using the parts from a 77.5-79 4x4.
