I had the same problem on one of the Super Dutys I had in the past, it was covered under the original 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. Problem turned out to be a bad seal (o-ring) on the hub assembly itself which resulted in a vacuum leak. Haven't had the problem on my '01, however, I did have to replace the entire hub assembly due to the retaining nut that holds the bearing in place splitting in half. What I am getting at here is, if your vehicle is not under warranty, get yourself a Haynes manual a new o-ring and do the job yourself, it's pretty easy.
i can lock it manually but what is the point on spending $15,000 for a truck and then have to use the gadgets manually, not my idea of spontaneus adventurer.
well my main concern is since my truck "is" under warranty i want to milk it for all i can, know what i mean.
now is there anything i can do for maintenance after i fix it?
It could be that the hubs are bad or maybe a good cleaning will resolve the problem.
I guess you're going to let the warranty find and fix it. Since that's the case, if they do it right, the hubs shouldn't need maintenance except the standard cleaning after you travel through deep mud for extended periods.
i checked for vacuum so there is no problem there so i am just going to drive it to the dealer so they can figure it out.i really don't want to pay for anything right now its just not goood for my ego, 'cause if my friend find out that i had to spend money on it awredy i am going to be fried
There is a TSB about the huds not staying locked. Take it to the dealer. I has somthing to do with the shafts rubbing the back side of the locking hub.
Try locking the hubs manually, then using the ****
My hubs lock fine with the switch, however they will not turn manually. Are all models supposed to work manually also? 2000 model xlt scab 4x4 short whl bs.

I've heard about that - the ***** getting stuck - I think a silicone spray will work, but they are probably dirty as all heck.
Might be time to pull them apart - it's pretty easy looking - if they are so dirty that the **** is stuck, you'll probably need to replace the O-rings too...
