Starter Compatability????

..............Will a working starter off a 460 fit and engage a flywheel on a 4.9 , I6 ?? I'm asking for a friend who is dropping an I6 into the place of the 460 that was in his 83 , f250 , 4x4 , thanks , s.kuteman

I don't think....If i remeber right the 460 is a 2 bolt and the 300-6cyl is a 3 bolt starter

I think mine are two bolt , if I remember right...I changed one not too long ago...But still, I'd be real careful and compare..I *think* even among the 300's , they had two types of starters. One for automatics, and one for standards.
Or I think anyway...The flywheels may be different also.
If the two look totally identical, including solenoids, etc, there is a good chance they would work...But really, I have no idea... MK

They are fairly cheap. I just spent about 35-40 bucks for a lifetime starter...I think they sold rebuilts for a little over 20 bucks...MK

cheap ?

i just replaced mine up here there 116$ whiteboxed plus core charge damn i am in the wrong country
