Well, I just got home from trying to get a combine we found rusting in a field to run. We got it to turn over and blow a little black smoke, definitely needs some carb work. Anyone else involved in combine derbies?
i actually havent seen a combine derby yet, ive just heard they are kinda boring cuz they dont move too fast. i build and compete in derby cars though. i have pics of my last 2 cars in my gallery.
I've seen those on Tv somewhere, I beleive it was Monster Nation. Pretty cool lookin. I'd end up getting knocked out of the drivers seat...Plus, kinda surprising they don't have rollovers, aren't combines pretty topheavy? Theyt seem like they would be.
I saw one years ago, but wasn't all that impressed, unless it's changed some. The major weight on a combine is low, otherwise we'd have more reports of them tipping when running on side hills. They look like they could be, but most of what's up high is sheetmetal. But they do have plenty of that to smash, and the driveline is pretty tough to get to, so it's hard to get them stopped...
I compete in car demo derby's and my wife's grandpa has his combine parked in my driveway. All of my buddies raz me about being a "wanna-be" farmer (I only have 4 acres) I would really like to build a combine for a derdy though. If that old Oliver sits much longer, I might just have to. Anyway, my 66 sucide lincoln is sitting next to it just waiting to be built for the next derby.
I've only heard of combine derbies, never seen one. But I compete in car derbies. Got a 83 Merc Grand marquis at home with a 350hp 318 Dodge waitin for next year. I broke an axle on my first hit last summer and that ended my day. After that comes a old Plymouth Fury SW. I may be a Ford man, but in the ring Dodge kicks ***.
Trueblue, you need to join us in the NW Chapter forum and keep us all posted as to when the combine derby is going to be. I've always wanted to go watch that but seem to miss it. Only about 2 hours from me.
my first demo car was a 84 buick electra, the black car in my gallery, and my second was a 78 olds 88, the blue car. they both had 307s in em. im in the process of looking for my next car but havent really found what i wanted for the right price, although ive found a few that will do if it comes to it.
hey redmt77, what kinda shape is that 66 in? what engine, tranny does it have in it, im just curios cause ive been looking around for one and want to know what to look for
