Hello,does anyone know if the motorcraft 5w-30 super premium is the same as the 5w-30 premium synthetic. most parts stores in my area seems to have changed to the 5w-30 premium synthetic.

Without seeing a spec sheet, I would have to say probably not. When an oil is synthetic or a blend, the manufacturer is usually quite proud of that and will prominently label it as such. If it doesn't say synthetic, it most likely isn't.

In the past motorcraft had a dino 5W-30 and a "synthetic" 5W-30. The "synthetic" 5W-30 was most likely a group III hydrocracked dino oil which is technically allowed to be called synthetic. Where as Mobil 1 is a group IV and is a true synthetic. For the money look for the new Motorcraft SM rated 5W-30 oil. It's a Group II and Group III hydrocracked dino oil for a REAL discount price of under $1.50 at most Walmart's. In a 5,000 mile oil change interval it'll most likely perform every bit as good as the much more expensive "synthetic" Motorcraft 5W-30 oil. Even over 5,000 miles I don't think the Motorcraft "synthetic" will perform any better than the new SM blend/premium oil.

The Premium motor oil is actually a synthetic blend, but ssshhhhh.
The synthetic is a full synthetic.
Actually..I believe that the "full synthetic" is just all Gp III, while the "Other" stuff has Gp II+ in it. The Gp III is like quasi-synthetic..or poser synthetic. ^_^
