I have used many fluke meters and own a 73 III. They are very reliable and accurate meters. Cannot say if i have used a 78, but i really like their meters.
In the labs I have worked in... Spectronic and HP oscilloscopes, and others... but Fluke, and only Fluke, meters. Fluke meters are the one constant wherever good meters are needed.
Our shop has a Fluke in every tool kit. We haul our Fluke around in all sorts of climates and situations. The 87 is an amazing piece of kit and does everything and more than we need. Plus they're are really durable and stand up to beating around in the truck tool box.
I trust my life with Fluke meters on a regular baises. When you need to know a 480 volt line is off before you grab ahold of it. I have only had to replace one of my Fluke meters, cause it was stolen the rest stand up to the abuse of my office (aka: work van)
You can also send your Fluke meters back to them for recalibration, for a small fee of course, but they do have quick turn around. Fluke also owns the Pomona brand test leads.
Fluke also offers the 88 Deluxe Automotive meter
Here's something NOT to do with your Fluke meter....True story.....
I worked in our companies calibration lab. Guy brings in his Fluke one day, says it won't work. Turns out he brought it home the night before.....wanted to see the voltage output on the "shock" collar for his dog.........
So don't go trying to measure the voltage on a "shock" collar without a High Voltage Probe.....
And I for one will NEVER put a "shock collar" on my dog!
