D8ve head work. Who?

I have never done any type of port work before and don't really have the tools to do it. Besides I have been told that you pretty much need a flow bench to really do it right. Does any one know who I could send my heads to and have valve guides, stainless valves and some port work done? I'm wanting to stay with the factory heads. Looking for someone that can do what they say with a good turn around. Can ya'll help?

I have decide to to build my engine as stock looking as I can.

you can get a die grinder and remove the bump in the exhaust port yourself and blend it in and clean it up.then have some larger valves installed ,plane the heads and all will be will. i have see how to papers on this grinding before and it takes some time but shouldn't be to difficult.seen it in a hot rod mag and on the internet ,both showed lots of pictures and seems pretty straight forward.they both said nothing needs to be done on the intake side because it flows great so all the work should be concentrated on exhaust side-you can do this and good look.

It would help get answers if you had the correct casting numbers in your question. Your heads are probably either D3VE's or D0VE's or C8VE's. Try doing a search or just look through a few pages. This subject is brought up almost weekly.

Well, where would I find a number cast on the head? The sticker on the valve covers say D8ve. If the D8ve is not the head what is it?

I might be wrong and it might be a D3ve, put I don't think so.

The head numbers will be cast into the head themselves. It will be on a flat spot just above one of the center exhaust ports, and the numbers are about 3/8" high.

Thank's.

So still one problem. If I have to do it my self I need to buy a high speed grinder. I guess I need one anyway so I can do the oil passages.

Considering the heads weigh around 75lbs each, you'd spend a TON of cash just in shipping, money that could be spent on the heads themselves.

I'd do some reading on the internet, get a nice electric grinder, and do the porting yourself. Ask around and find a decent local shop to do your guide work and valve job...

Ya, I do have a shop that will do the guides and valves and other machine work. They just don't like to do any port work due to it being time comsuming.

For a mild buildup, the heads really don't need that much port work.

The intake really doesn't need to be touched at all, all I'd do would be to go into the bowl and blend the seat into the bowl.

On the exhaust, I'd simply take out the thermactor bump, install a 1.75" valve, blend the seat into the bowl again, and maybe raise the roof a bit to match the exhaust gasket. That's it, doing this will support 450hp with ease...

If you'd like to email me offline, I can provide a link to show you these steps...I don't think we're supposed to post "competing" sites.

Ok, The heads have D3ve cast on them. So I guess this is the correct head number.

Talking I have posted this before...

There are full porting instructions on my website for all street duty iron and aluminum castings.

http://reincarnation-automotive.com/

RHP also ports cylinder heads. RHP large valve D0VE-C's have made 700 HP. The D3's are not far behind.

email me for more information.

Thank's for the info.

You are correct. I would hate to see the shipping bill on a set of heads!

Talking Shipping via FedEx is not that bad...

Runs from $55.00 to $80.00 per pair depending on how far they have to go.

I ship heads all over the US, canada and to Europe / australia so I am familiar with the costs.
