Coil over VS Coil?

I want to change my suspension to where it's coil all around, and I'm wondering, if I'm at it, if it'd be worth it to run coilovers rather than the standard coil springs.. but I'm not exactly sure what it is about coilovers that makes it work so well, why is it able to get so much more flex over a conventional coil spring setup? And is it really worth the price difference, esp. as far as strength etc. goes.

A lot of this depends on what you plan to do with your truck. For most applications regular coils will be fine. For rigs that will see extreme articulation or need a lot of travel and flex the coilovers are great. The springs they use are softer and have more loops/coils which allows a much greater stretch and compression. However they ride rather soft so they're not always a great choice for trucks being driven daily on the street. Fullsize trucks weigh a bit more than they were designed for also so you'd need 2 per side in the front. This gets to be VERY expensive. IMO unless you're rockcrawling or jumping your truck they're probably not going to be worth the bucks.

Coil Overs look really cool...but for your every day rig thats about all they do.
