This forum has been great, hoping you'll be able to help me with my latest issue. 1995 F-150 4X4 302. I replaced the starter about a year ago and have had trouble free starting ever since. Just this week however I have noticed that I am getting a strange noise from the starter after the engine starts up. When I turn the key on the starter engages and the engine starts just fine, but for a few seconds after releasing the key it sounds like the starter is still engaged, then the sound quickly goes away. Wierd! I saw someone had a similar problem due to the ignition switch not disengaging properly, what do I lubricate it with, silicone spray lub? any suggestions on what this problem could be? and do I need to address it right away, will it damage anything if I let it go awhile, I'm working alot and the holidays are comming. Thanks to all for the help, happy holidays
It has a clutch that allows the flywheel to turn faster than the ring gear, so no, as long as its not for more than a few seconds after start-up, it's not going to hurt you to wait to get it looked at. I would have said that the ring gear was just slow in coming back (in your starter), but since you have a new one, probably is your switch sticking. I don't know about what lube that would be, I'm sure someone can pick that part of the question up.
I dunno what that could be, maybe the starer soliniod, I just had that happen once in my 1990 f-150 but it wouldn't shutown until I disconnected my battery. It only happened once but I really don't want to hear that again. let me now how you make out with it.
