Having a real hard time replacing the kingpins on my 1960, the old ones do not want to leave, any suggestions, and if heat is involved what to heat the pin or the housing. Thanks in advance..
also i live in channelview texxas couldnt get a machine shop to ream ,
one shop they broke their reamer ,wasnt going to buy another one, so
i end up doing it myself ,lasted real good for a while now rf is loose again
time to do it again, i will try harder to get a reamer nexxt time
I pounded mine out with a big hammer, but one trick I read about on here a while ago is to jack up the front of your truck, place a bar between the floor and the bottom of the kingpin and SLOWLY let down the jack
Going to try the heat this morning, I have the truck up on stands and had a floor jack on the underside of the pin and raised it up about a 1/4" up off of the stand with no luck. Its been soaking with WD-40 all night hope things go well this morning, will keep you all posted...
Get everything cherry red and pound with a maul, not a hammer, and it'll come out. If you don't have an acetylene or propane with oxygen torch you should seriously consider getting one.
A MAP gas torch will work for heating if you are patient enough and keep an extra cylinder or two handy.
PS: WD40 is actually a poor penetrating oil, it's just 10 weight motor oil in a spray can. Use Liquid Wrench instead the difference is night and day.
