I have a 1993 Aerostar extended, 4.0L... About a year ago, when fueling up I started experiencing a fuel backing-up problem... Most of the time, but not always, when fueling-up if I let the fuel run till the tank is full, the gas could/will backup and spew out the filler pipe... If I stop it just before I think it's full, then on occasion, but again not always, when I pull the nozzle out there is a rush of air, either in or out, can't tell, but guessing it gushing out... I can't lock the filler nozzle to run and shut off automatically because, sometime it will shut off, sometime it won't when full... Besides being a pain it's dangerous... If anyone knows what's going on, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks...
BIll..
PS,, I've lurked here off and on, but finally decided to sign up today.. My '93 has 135K miles, runs like a top.. The first 6 months, I had the alternator replaced under warranty as it worked sometime and not other times. I had the thermostat replaced last year and the MAS sensor replaced this year... Thats the only actual repairs other than brakes, pipes, plugs, etc.
Current problems: the proportioning brake valve is leaking and needs replaced.. I've got a oil leak at the rear engine seal that doesn't leak on the floor, but I use a quart of oil every 700-1200 miles, which will never get fixed... Finally, just a slight bit of rust on the lower rocker panels.. which I don't consider too bad considering the van lived in Wisconsin, Pa, and now in Ohio, it's entire life...
wilythek
I would say that you have a bend or a flat spot in the rubber filler tube that runs to the tank from the filler hole,do you have a anti syphon thing in the tube?If so it may have some thing stuck in it.
