When the Predator specs. say" Improved, or firmer shifting" Can anyone tell me just how " firm" do they mean? I like the way my 05 SD 6.0 shifts now but I would like to install the programmer. Thanks, Alan
It's hard to explain "firm" in written words. I have adjusted the Shift Firmness settings in my Predator and my transmission shifts quicker. The duration of the shift is a quicker instead of the seemingly slow motion shift that takes a full second. I also turned off Torque Modulation so it actually gives a little kick when it shifts, instead of the factory setting of a grandma-friendly shift. At WOT, the tires bark when it does the 1-2 shift.
If you like the way your vehicle shifts now, you don't have to change the shift settings at all. You'll still reap the other benefits of the Predator.
Trust me, a firmer shift is an improvement. You don't know how bad the stock shift is until you try the new shift. Its not going to be uncomfortable. The more throttle you give the firmer it gets. In other words, when you need fast response you'll get it, when you don't you won't.
Ive been running the Predator for about 10 days, in 65 hp mode, and frankly Im a little alarmed at the hard shifts. From a dead stop at WOT they are fine, smooth, but one seems to be hard. The downshift first **** is very hard, by hard I mean a noticable jolt through the truck, Im thinking this cant be good ? I love the power for sure, but the clunking style shifts have me a little worried about the wear and tear on the transmission. Any ideas ?
