What is this?

Hi All;

Bought an 5.8L engine from a wrecker for my '93 E150 and I'm trying to find out what it REALLY is. It was represented as being from a '92 pick-up, so I'm trying to figure it out from the casting number, but there's a lot of conflicting and incomplete info on the net. Can anybody here decode this?

Casting number E4AE-6015-FA-5 7F17

Yes the first part of the casting number seems to indicate it's an '84, but the date code (last 4 digits) seems to indicate it was cast in '87. Does any of this actually preclude it having been a new motor in '92?

If is a carry over part from year to year the casting # shouldnt change but the change level might and the cast date code will.
