About 3 months ago I got my truck about a week after i got it the airbag light came on for a day, and it went away before i really looked into it that much. Today it came on again, and i checked the code... 46 - Driver pretensor Circuit High/Low... my question is what exactly is that and whats involved in fixing it...
I called the dealership i got it from and told one of sales people about it to see what can be done, with me not barely finishing telling about the fact that it randomly came on he says, "That not covered by the state mandatated warrenty." He also went on to say that none of the extened warrenties they offer cover that.
Is it really worth raiseing heck at the dealership over this, or is it easy enough thati should cut the warrenty now and fix it my self?
Another question I had, does Ford have a speed limitor in the engines computer, or is there another reason my engine stops accelorating at 95MPH?
The pretensioner has a charge in it kinda like an airbag. If your in an wreck it will go off and tighten the seatbelt around you to keep you in place. Check the connector under the seat, they do sometimes get loose. If it has to be replaced they are like Airbags ($$), its pretty much a dealer fix.
Yes the rangers are speed limited to about 92 MPH, and about 3000 rpm in park and netural.
I have replaced them in a maxima it is not too difficult. My 2001 ranger had the same code and I took it to the dealership and they told me that there is a different warranty on the safety system I think 3 or 5 years. They replaced
it for free.
