Tire Chain ?

I have an 04 xlt 4x4. I want to get some tire chains. I looking for reccomendations on style and more importantly can i get by w/ one set. I will not be playing off road, but may need to get up to my farm in bad weather as well as be on the hard road in bad weather. If i can get by with one set, should i put it on the front or back. I had and experianced off road driver say he only puts them on the back. Thanks for the help.

IMHO, the number of sets really depends on the depth of the snow, the steepness of the hills you may need to drive through, and the load you might have. It gotta be really bad to need two, but not inconceivable. Only you know how bad the roads can be there. I'd put them on the axle with the most weight on; or on the back if they are roughly equally weighted.

Don't put chains on only one axle. You are asking for problems. There's a thread in the general automotive thread right now about this very same thing.

As for the type, stay away from the cable-style ones. You'll get better traction with the heavy duty link-style chains. I got a set of link chains for all 4 at wally mart for about $80. What's your insurance deductable?
