Took my truck to the dealer a couple weeks ago for two things. One was the new flash that SBV45 talked about and the other was the problem with the Reverse Aid System coming back on after every transition from drive to reverse. This was so annoying!
The dealer was able to fix the "backup sensor" by changing some parameter in the computer so that after hitting the "Off" button it only comes back on AFTER a key cycle (like the owners manual states.) It is nice to be able to maneuver my fifth wheel into a tight spot without the backup sensor going off every five seconds!
As per fuel economy it seems about the same (according to the lie-o-meter.)
Also, the fuel gauge (while the truck is running) will go right on up to full while you are filling the tank, unlike before it would barely make it to the 1/4 mark then very slowly make it to full, unless you cycled the key.
Amazing what that little box (PCM) does.
I am in the process of getting a whole new PCM in my 04 350. (Build date NOV 03) It has taken a week just to get the part. I am hoping to see an increase in fuel miliage and the rough idle and surges go away.

Well I thought all was well with my system but it now seems to be too sensitive. I went through a car wash the other day and about an hour later it started falsing real bad when I backed up. My wife took it to the dealer today and it acted normal at first, then with a bit of road salt on it, it falsed again. Too sensitive? Anyone know if this can be adjusted in the PCM? Dealer doesn't seem to have a clue.
Just a little update. The PCM did nothing to help the surge and rough idle. The truck went back in after the weekend and they switched out the ICM (injector control module) and that has taken care of the problem so far. On the back up sensor. Mine gives false signals during a deep freeze with road salt. I have cleaned the sensors but it does not stop until it thaws out.
Not to hi-jack this thread, but car-washes, cold / freezing weather, and the backup sensors do not seem to play well. My backup sensors went crazy last Friday after going to the carwash. My backup alarm was on constantly when in reverse. The problem went away by itself the next day without me doing anything.
Talked to my tech today about coolant leak and latest flashes. I was told that since July '04 there had been 6 new flashes for 04 trucks. He reflashed me after my last visit without my knowledge. they've been fishing about programmer information also. Service advisor told me the tech could tell if a programmer had EVER been installed on my truck. HA HA. I know that's a lie--unless the inside source is fibbing. HMMMM
