Hello, first post, love the site! ...couple of quick questions, just bought a 2000 Ranger supercab 4X4 with the 3.0L, automatic trans. Truck has 55,000 miles on it and seems to have a slight stumble or misfire in top gear. Truck will jerk very slightly at cruising speeds in overdrive from time to time. Is this something plugs, and wires will cure? Truck also seems very underpowered, don't know if its just the smaller motor, or a needed tuneup? Thanks in advance.
Try cleaning your MAF with some CRC electronic parts cleaner.
Then disconnect your battery for 20+minutes and you will reset your engine management computer.
Let it idle for 10+ minutes then drive it easy for 15-20 minutes then return to your regular driving habits.
The 3.0 is known as the 3.slow so you might not get as much power out of it as you hope even if it is running at top performance.
The new Rangers with 4x4 option almost all come with the 4.0 engine now and a 2004/2005 3.0 4x4 is pretty rare these days.
Good luck - and welcome to the Ranger world.
my 4.0 does the same thing. it misses when shifting out of overdrive. i have 51K, and is starting to get worse. i had it in the shop earlier this year for a misfire, and it was a bad plug wire. i think im going to replace the other five to see if it makes a difference.
