Help!!!!!!!!!
My 87 2.9 ltr 4x4 with standard tran. is really acting crazy. For the last 6 months or so every now and then it won't turn off. When I start it the starter sounds real winey or won't stop turning. I have to at that point push the break and let out on the clutch to kill it. Then restart and its fine. It does did this around once a month then at closer intervals. Well, today it would not kill when I let out on the clutch. I put in reverse to and let out on the clutch no kill. Well needless to say I smelled burning wires and smoke coming out under the hood.Finially it Quit. Something burnt up. Do you all think it was the starter. Or all electrical Parts. When I Try to start now all I get is click.

Sue, since you smelled smoke, there could be a lot of parts fried, but I would look first at the starter solenoid. This will be the part that the positive battery cable attaches to. Good luck. Don

Thanks, It was the starter. My husband changed it and it works fine. I was thinking I burned up all the electrical parts, but Seems like only the starter. Cost me $50.00 and 30 minutes time.
