Smile reposition battery cable?

on my 91 150 5.0 the negative battery cable needs to be replaced. where it bolts up the nut is stripped. can i simply drill a hole in the frame and run the neg cable to a new bolt. like right below the battery? i dont see any other wires to the original bolt, so it should be just the neg cable. THANKS

Not to the frame. Try to find somewhere on the engine block. The engine is mounted in rubber, and the big current user is the starter, which is also bolted to the block. So you need the big diameter battery wire going to the block. There should be smaller straps that go from the engine to the firewall, and other sheetmetal to ground it.

The best spot would be to the block itself. If you were able to scrape the paint away, and use a bolt that bolted the alt bracket to the engine block, that should work ok. Using a bolt that bolted the alt to the bracket, which was then bolted to the block with another bolt at the other end of the bracket, would be a second best choice, but would still probably work.
