well from what others have told me, it was my understanding that sefi had to be wired...and maf wasnt initialy sefi
in that case..what is tuned port injection? compared to regular efi or is it regular efi?
You do have to wire for SEFI, it doesn't magically run SEFI on its own. The mass air computers used in mass air swaps fire the injectors sequentially - they do not just plug into the stock truck harness and work right away. There is a host of changes that must be made to the wiring to adapt to a mass air computer - see http://brembs.net/cars/maf_conversion/ for more info on the wiring that needs to be done.
The only TPI I know of is made by GM, and I do not know anything about it. I assume it is just a regular old multiport injection system - I have no idea whether it is sequential or batch fired.
well with tpi the torque rane startes at a lower rpm like 600 or so with sefi the max tq is at say 3500...with tpi the tq curve is very flat..that all i know thats why i want it lol
Ok question Is it possible to switch my e4od out for an AOD and run it with speed density until i can convert to Mass Air? The cost of an AOD is less than an e40d and I could use the money i saved there to buy the MAF conversion kit........right?
The TPI power curves are a function of intake manifold design, and lots of dyno tuning.
An AOD won't be nearly as strong as the E4OD, and behind a 351, I'm not sure how long that would last. I don't know if it would be up to the task of towing either. For durability, it's hard to beat a C6. You could run the truck without the electronic transmission, but it would turn on the check engine light for not having a transmission. It should still run though.
yea the e40d does have a nice first gear...i'll stick with the SD and get a jet e4od. im sure 300 hp is plenty to do what i need it to. Besides im gonna stick a big gear in the rear anyways for towing.
If you're planning to do a "junkyard" conversion I would assume you could get a computer from a vehicle with MAF and e4od...theoretically. I'm not sure which vehicles would have had a EEC-IV, 302 and e4od combo. You would need to feel pretty confident about your wiring abilities.
If you try to swap in a non electronic AOD, the computer in your truck will not like the lack of feedback signals from the transmission, so you would have to change the computer as well. The C6 is a great tranny but I would stick with the e4od.
well i looked at a jet e4od and it was 2800 dollars!!!!! any suggestions? I need to replace it and I want the extra clutches that the aftermarket provides....Im just not prepared to buy a transmission thats worth half the blue book of my truck.
Thats the E4Od for ya. its the most expensive tranny ford produced in these rigs. there are plenty of tranny builders around other then jet you just need to search them out. go to google and run a search for aftermarket tranny shops.
man your lookin for the most expensive shops possible arent ya. hehe. just because they are big names doesnt mean your getting the best for your needs. really do some searching. otherwise there is a place down in arizona that builds tranny's that would get ya at least back on the road again. here is there site http://www.phoenixhardparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv
Wow thanks man I'll have to call them and get the specifics thats alot better on price and it sounds like it will be up to the task of towing and handling a little bump up in horsepower. I planned on getting a custom valvebody and T.C. but the description sounds really nice. I like the idea of the electronic transmission control unit from baumann electronic controls. Actually i like most of the e40d upgrade stuff they have on there site.
