Personally, I'm a perpetuator of the positive ficticious characters (Santa, Easter Bunny, etc) but not the negative (monsters, boogey man, etc). It's fun for my kids. I believe that some children today grow-up to fast anyway - let the kids enjoy the "spirit" of Santa, et al. while they're still kids!
I guess I think of it this way: would not believing in Santa, and therefore diminishing the "spirit" of Santa, have more of an impact than finding out that a "real" Santa doesn't exist?

Im 35 And I Believe Santa Does Exist In Some Form...
What I Mean Is Even Though He Not The Jolly Red Elf From The North Pole..your Santa..im Santa Hes Santa..and The Easter Bunny Etc..
All The Kids Know Is Present From Santa Show Up...easter Baskets Show Up..etc..be A Fatguy A Large Rabbit Or The Kids Mum Or Pops..
I Hope Santa (or Me Wife) Leaves Me A New Stroker Crank Under The Tree..:-d
If you don't believe in Christmas, Easter bunny, tooth fairy etc-- why have a childhood. I can not imagine not having these in your life. I raised several sets of step children , I will say that most of these children didn't believe from an early age in any of the above mentioned- they also tended to have a harder time in life itself. I feel these are an important part of childhood, becoming an adult I might add doesn't take this away- it just becomes more important to be the giver than the receiver and to see how important those smiles are to those children. I would still give presents to my ex-'s family- cousins, 2nd cousins etc., if I wouldn't have to deal with her to contact them. I personally have seen children that's thier only hope is based on holiday- how sad.
The constant in & out of cold & warm places, the perspiration factor, the walking was just getting be impossible to handle.
I never did malls,It was strictly Private schools, driving around Calgary on the Friday before Christmas handing out close to 1500 candy canes to children of all ages.
It was these thoughts that spurred me in asking the question for this thread.
I'd have to go along with jasond5150 on this one. I tried to keep the Santa Claus/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy thing going while telling my kids the boogey man, monsters, and the scary thing under the bed were not real.
Now that my kids are all grown up, they come to me and want me to verify the same thing when they tell it to the grandkids.
