5.8 Head Gaskets

I noticed when I placed a set of Felpro Head gaskets on the block that 2 of 4 coollant ports were obstructed. Is this because the gasket is preventing a crossflow? Or do I have a set of defective gaskets? I have never built a SB Ford and the engine was dismantled when I received it. I would have verified this with the old gaskets if I had them but they were already tossed when I received the project. T hanks for any input.

I can't remember if the front or the rear are supposed to be blocked off. There's nothing wrong with your gaskets. Also there should be a front marking on the gasket somwhere, and when you install them, one will look like it is upside down compared to the other side.

well the gaskets are mirror images of each other. and both sides of each gasket has the word " FRONT" impressed into it. However with the slight bend at the top of each gasket, it is obvious which side is up. i hope. thanks for the info.

I was wondering what you meant by the "bent side goes up". Glad to hear you got it figured out.
