I have an '02 F250 CC,4X4, V10. When I hit 61211 miles, the check engine light came on. I was talking to a mechanic friend (not a Ford mechanic), said the Fords engine light will come on at around 60K for scheduled service. Said to take it in, have them scan it just in case. He said 9.9 out of 10 times there's no issue with the truck, but it'll cost around $30 bucks to have them clear the light.
The truck runs great, no change in performance...
Any truth to his statement?

Have autozone check the code for you, they do it for free. Mine SES went on at about 87,000, it ended up reading an P0401 code (low flow egr). I checked the egr valve with a vacume pump and it was fine. There is a sensor called a DPFE(Differencial Pressure something or other), it can go bad giving the computer a false reading for the egr system. It was only $40 at the local dealer, installed it myself and it's been fine for the last 20,000mi. They were supposedly notorious for going out on the 99 modle years(that's what I have), and the new one did look a bit different physically. I guess what I'm saying is get the code read before you take it in to the stealership. Good luck
