Using a newer seat does require some mods-mainly because the gas tank gets in the way.
If you have moved the tank, then the choices are many-buckets or bench, leather or cloth, etc. Just measure the width before you buy.Spacing it off the floor is usually easy.
My fuel tank was relocated,so it wasn't an issue.
I used leather buckets out of a taurus that matched my light grey int.
I had to use buckets(don't care for them in trucks) because I am using a 5+4 trans and needed room for the shifters.
Looks pretty good,though.
i try to stay away from car seats because sometimes they lean back too much and you dont sit right. a lot of people talk up the small pickup seats like the ranger seats, i used a 84 f150 split bench, but it is a tight fit i think on the sides. i just bolted threaded rod to the bottom and i can adjust up n down to get my hight n tilt where i want it.
1 of the car magazines has an article on the size of all the seats for compatibility. For the mid fifties effie they recommend the mid 90 chevy /gmc bench seat as being the same width. The magazine was cct /ct one of the 2 anyway. I will look back and let you know if you are interested.
There is a number of possiblilities. It all depends on what you want and like. You can go with the F150 60/40 bench seats with power seats etc. The headrests come up a little high on the rear window. Do a search on this website, there's tons of posts about this subject. A friend of mine installed some early 60's Lincoln seats. They are also power and went right in without any modifications. Finding a Lincoln with good seats may be a problem. By the way, it's the Lincoln that has the suicide doors. I'd go through some magazines too, they tell what seats the feature trucks have installed in them. Good luck.
